44th Italian Conference of Diocesan Caritas | Gradez (GO), 8.-11. April 2024
As part of the 44th Caritas Italian conference , which will take place in Gradež, the approximately 600 participants will also visit the Co-Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer in Nova Gorica on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, probably around 5 p.m.
The slogan of the conference is: “Borders, an area of contact and not separation” , will be held in Gradež (GO) from Monday 8 to Thursday 11 April 2024.
More than 600 delegates, representatives of 218 diocesan Caritas from all over Italy, are expected to take part in the findings of last year’s conference in Salerno and look towards the 2025 Jubilee. delivered by Pope Francis on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Italian Caritas (July 1, 1971): the path of the last; the way of the gospel; the path of creativity.
The “border” of this 44th conference is not meant as a line that establishes inside and outside, but as a door that allows exit and entry , but which can also be closed and blocked. The border itself marks the intersection of center and periphery: it can be or become a place of meeting and preaching or an element that creates distance and exclusion; It depends on how we use the door.
The conference will take place on the border that runs near Gradež and Gorica, between Italy and Slovenia, permeable due to their common membership in the European Union, which emphasizes how differences should be valued, communicated and made fruitful. Nova Gorica and Gorica, one city seen from the air, will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025.
“Charity” (” caritas ” in Latin) is “crossing boundaries”, as Msgr. Carlo Redaelli , archbishop of Gori and president of the Italian Caritas ( Caritas Italian ). “All boundaries, starting with the ones we have in our hearts and minds…”. We want them to “become points of meeting and reconciliation “.
During the three days of the congress, there will be many lectures on different borders, on culture, on Europe, on the “three paths”, on the role of Caritas, on the pursuit of peace…
In addition to the representatives of Greek, Spanish and Italian Caritas, the president of Slovenian Caritas, the Bishop of Maribor, Mgr. Alojzij Cvikl .
