Scheduled program
Day 1: NOVA GORICA – MONOŠTER (SZENTGOTTHARD) – SOMBOTEL (SZOMBATHELY) – SOPRON
Bus departure in the morning. Driving with refreshment stops to Hungary. The first stop will be in Monoštr . The town was founded in the 12th century by the Hungarian king Bela III , who built a monastery and named the town after the Bavarian saint St. Gothard . Monošter is also known for its Slovenian minority. We will visit the Baroque Church of the Assumption of Mary, which is located in the former Cistercian monastery. A walk through the city center.
We will continue driving to Sombotel ( Savarija or Szambathely ) – the place where the very popular saint St. Martin . After the tour and Holy Mass, drive to Sopron . The city represents the heart of western Hungary and is rich in the heritage of the Middle Ages, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Short tour, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: SOPRON – PANNONHALMA – ESTERGOM – VISEGRAD – SZENTENDRE – BUDAPEST
After breakfast, we will drive past Gyor and make a stop in Pannonhalma .
According to the belief of some, St. Martin born in Pannonhalma . At the top of the hill, there is a Benedictine super-abbey, where they keep the heart of the last Habsburg born in the monarchy – Otto von Habsburg , who died at the age of 99 in 2011. A walk and tour of the abbey will follow.
We will continue driving towards Esztergom , the seat of the most important and oldest Hungarian metropolis. After the Romans, the city was occupied by the Slavs and in the 10th century by the Hungarians. Here was the capital of the ruler Arapd . St. was born and baptized in the city . Stephen I , who united the Hungarian tribes into a single state and crowned himself the 1st king of the Hungarians. Due to the invasion of the Turks, the city lost its leading position. Today, the biggest landmark in the city is the classicist basilica, built in the second half of the 19th century, which is also the largest church in Hungary. After the tour and Holy Mass, we will continue driving along the Danube River past Visegrad , where the remains of Matija Korvin’s summer residence are located . We’ll get tothe town of Szentendre , which is located along the meander of the Danube river and developed over the centuries around the church of St. Andrei. The baroque buildings are a remnant of the immigration of Serbs who were invited by the Hungarians to drive out the Turks. We will walk through the streets, where shops with local delicacies, including marzipan, abound.
Driving to Budapest. Afteraccommodation in the hotel will be followed by a drive to one of the čards , where we will taste Hungarian dishes in a typical Hungarian bar with live music. After dinner, return to the hotel and stay overnight.
Day 3: BUDAPEST – ZALAVAR – NOVA GORICA
After breakfast, we will take a bus along the Danube. We will observe Buda with the castle hill and the Citadel, drive over one of the beautiful bridges to Pest , past the interesting parliament building to Heroes’ Square and the Opera House, and stop by the Basilica of St. Stefan . There will be some free time to buy souvenirs on Vaci Street .
We will leave Budapest and drive along Lake Blatne to Zalav . We will stop at the remains of the church of St. Hadrian from the times when Prince Kocelj lived in this place and St. Brothers Cyril and Methodius .
After visiting the archeological excavations, we will drive to čarda for a late lunch and then drive towards home, passing by Lendava, Murska Sobota, Celje and Ljubljana. We will arrive home in the late evening hours.
The program also provides for prayer on the busand holy masses. St. masswill be held every day, but depending on the planned program, the location may change due to circumstances.
PRICE
€360 per person – the price is calculated with the participation of at least 40 passengers on the bus;
€390 per person – the price is calculated with the participation of at least 30 passengers on the bus.
PRICE INCLUDES: bus transportation on the indicated route (with 2 drivers); all tolls and parking fees; 1 half board in a 3* hotel in Sopron or its surroundings (double room, WC); 1 night with breakfast in a 3* hotel in Budapest or its surroundings (double room, TWC); tours according to the program with entrance fees in addition Pannonhalm and the Basilica of St. Stephen;
other tours according to the program without entrance fees, dinner in the čarda on the second evening with the program and a drink included, late lunch on the third day in the čarda en route (without program); a Slovenian companion and the organization of the pilgrimage.
